Machine made curtains - Bag lined

The fabric used is Lucetta by Crowson. If you want to add B/O lining, add this to the wrong side of the main fabric before adding the lining.

How to: Lay the main fabric face down, add the B/O lining, this should be the same width as the main fabric, but 4cm above the hem line. Stitch the sides with a 1/2 seam allowance and then lay back on the table, main fabric face up and continue as in the videos above. Treat the main fabric and B/O lining as one.

Hi Philip

That was great - thanks for demonstrating - wouldn't you add weights to these curtains?

Philip

I haven't thought this through but could this method be applied to Interlined Roman Blinds, with a false mitre on each corner. I've always hand stitched the lining onto the face fabric on all 4 edges so as not to see any stitching on the face fabric, this method I would only need to stitch 2 edges.

Very many thanks for the video's - really clear and concise as always. You make it so clear in your demonstrations, much easier than reading, digesting and then re-reading in order to fully understand.

Thanks again.

I used to make blinds this way before I learned Phillips wonderful method!! I used to make the blind as per Phillips instructional video and then sew on the separate channels ( sew lines showing on the front) but have not tried with channels already in the lining....if that makes sense!! I do find the newer method much quicker and easier though.

With curtains, the only thing is it is easier with smaller ones, as the larger it gets, it can go slightly off from one side to the other! I have also done this method on the outer edges and then hand sewn the leading edges to make sure they were all lined up. I also used to leave 20cm at the bottom hem end so I could then mitre, weight and handsew.

I'd image you could use this method if you were to sew pockets onto the lining first, leaving the edge clear to bag out the blind. You would have to use a seperate fabric for the pockets though and sew them on. You could then stab stitch as normal.

My lovely local store stitch tape onto bonded IL and then bag out sides and bottom then put the velcro at the top then stab stitch.

Great videos Philip.

Can I ask why you don't press your sides turnings in on the fabric before you stitch the lining and fabric together first. Surely this would make the process quicker after you have turned everything thru?

Hi Penny

I see what you mean, pressing in would surely mean you'd need to be very accurate with the measurements.. I don't know, maybe that will come in time, you can show me how you do it when I visit if you like.
